Set courses

without tape

DIGITAPE measures gate distance right there on the slope – centimetre-accurate, live on the display, in fog just as well as in sunshine. Set a reference point, ski on, read it off. When the course is set, download the complete report.

DIGITAPE

Why course setting is still such a chore

Gate distances are still measured with a tape or a laser. The tape needs two people, snags in the snow and turns into a test of patience on a steep pitch. The laser needs a clear line of sight – in fog, snowfall or backlight it simply stops. Both cost time nobody has during training. And once the course is set, nothing documents how it was actually laid out.

Coaches need:
Centimetre-accurate distances without a second person
Measuring in fog, snowfall and backlight
One gate in seconds instead of minutes
The whole course, not single distances
A report that documents the course

DIGITAPE: the digital tape measure for the slope

DIGITAPE is a GNSS measuring device for course setting in alpine skiing. Switch it on, turn on your phone's hotspot – the device connects by itself and pulls in the RTK correction data. At the gate you press the button once. From that point the display shows the distance along the slope, continuously, while you move to the next gate.
DIGITAPE mounts where course setters already have a grip: on the cordless drill. Both hands stay free and the device simply comes along.

Five steps to a finished course

1. Switch on
Switch the device on and clip it to the cordless drill. That is all the preparation it needs.
2. Turn on the hotspot
Enable the hotspot on your phone. DIGITAPE connects automatically and receives the RTK correction data – no menu, no configuration.
3. Set the reference
Press the button once at the gate. The position is stored and becomes the zero point for the next measurement.
4. Measure live
Move to the next gate. The display shows the distance along the slope as you go – so you plant the gate exactly where you want it.
5. Download the report
Once the course is set, download the full report: every gate, distance, offset, pitch and the course map.

DIGITAPE in detail

The distance moves with you

As soon as the reference point is set, the display shows the distance back to it – updated continuously while you move to the next gate. Alongside it: the current accuracy, the correction status and the number of stored points. One glance tells you whether the distance is right – and whether the measurement can be trusted.

A World Cup-style course report

Once the course is set, download the complete report – in the form familiar from the World Cup. For every segment: gate distance, offset, pitch and turn angle, as a number and as a bar side by side. You can see at a glance where the course tightens, where it turns and where it runs flat.

The second page redraws the course to scale: every gate numbered, coloured by pitch, labelled with distance and turn angle. The course can be archived, shared across the coaching team – and rebuilt exactly the next time.

Frequently asked questions

How accurately does DIGITAPE measure?
With RTK correction data the accuracy is in the one to two centimetre range. The display shows the current accuracy continuously – so you always know what you are relying on.
Does it work in fog and snowfall?
Yes. DIGITAPE measures via satellite positions, not line of sight. Fog, snowfall, dusk or backlight make no difference – exactly where a laser gives up.
What do I need besides the device?
A smartphone with a hotspot. DIGITAPE connects automatically on power-up and pulls in the RTK correction data. Nothing else.
How is DIGITAPE carried while setting a course?
On a bracket on the cordless drill – the tool that is already along for drilling the gate poles. Both hands stay free and there is nothing extra to carry.
Can I measure several courses in a day?
Yes. Every measuring run is stored as its own session and can be downloaded as an individual report – training course in the morning, race course in the afternoon.
When will DIGITAPE be available?
We are preparing the first production run. Join the waiting list: you will be first to hear when delivery starts, and you secure a place in the first batch.
Which countries does DIGITAPE work in?
The RTK correction data comes from the u-blox PointPerfect network. Coverage includes every Alpine country – Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Slovenia, Liechtenstein and Andorra – plus Scandinavia, the Baltics, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, Spain, Portugal, the UK, Ireland and the Benelux countries. Outside Europe: the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Brazil. Coverage reaches roughly 22 km (12 nautical miles) offshore. u-blox publishes the current map at u-blox.com/en/pointperfect-service-coverage.
